HERE ARE PICTURES OF ASSASSINS YOU SHOULD PLAY IN STAB CITY

Oh sweet Jesus, yes!
ReplyDeleteI am playing a gorilla. How do I go about this?
ReplyDelete1-Pick Class (DONE)
Delete2-Your Brawn is 5. Divide 15 points among the other five stats.
3-Pick on Gorilla Talent to start with
4-Write down a Skill, any area your character has exceptional training in
5-Look at the core rules doc and pick out two weapons, one set of armor, and then any two other items you want (Rope, Pack of Playing Cards, Well Thumbed Copy Of Bootylicious)
6-NOTHING YOU ARE DONE
Also this is a very tight and sweet rules hack, and I especially love the class talents and how each is based off an attribute
DeleteTHANK YOU SCRAP PRINCESS
DeleteSuper excited about this! I might be able to make your playtest, and/or I could try to run it for my home group.
ReplyDeleteNitpicky bit of feedback: The Monster Talent "The Lecter Effect" should probably be once per mission rather than once per day.
That's a hard one to balance. On one hand, getting Draw 5 on a Charm Draw could potentially be a huge benefit, but it's also one of those powers that's really easy to squander without meaning to simply by misjudging which particular NPC you ought to be chatting up. Since STAB CITY is not really a game about being careful, I am hesitant to make a power like that usable only once per mission - I prefer to err on the side of making things over powered rather than too weak. It's definitely one of the Talents I'm keeping an eye on during playtest though, so I'll be keeping your comment in mind!
DeleteOh, ok, I was just assuming that it was a typo, since the other powers are structured as once-per-fight or once-per-mission rather than once-per-day. I wasn't trying to say anything about balance at this point.
DeleteI do think it's a bit clunky to have some powers that recharge per mission and some that recharge per day, since I'd assumed that the Mission powers are the equivalent of Daily Powers in 4E.
I have a few more things to say also:
ReplyDelete1. You can only use one Combo talent at a time, but can you use a Combo talent in addition to the doubles effect of your weapon?
2. The doubles effect for Hacking weapons is poorly explained. It sounds like they have to add up cards above a certain value to shake off the bleeding effect, but this is the opposite of what a Death Draw normally is (where you're hoping NOT to draw up above the value because that's when you die.)
3. I like that the rules for reloading encourage the Trigger Man to throw the empty gun away and pull out another one.
4. Have you considered including the multiclassing rules from Old School Hack?
5. Will you eventually release guidelines for creating enemies? e.g. what differentiates a mook from a regular enemy? (I can probably guess but it'd be nice to have some hard numbers.)
Thank you for the feedback!
Delete1-Yes, at least as it stands, you use both Combo Talents and weapon effects at the same time. It seems like it works, but we'll see in play testing.
2-The bleeding effect from hacking weapons and the Death Draw are both the same mechanic - Draw X cards per turn until you beat difficulty Y. It's a mechanic I'd like to include in the game, although I haven't found many uses for it. I'll definitely look back over the wording and try to fix that up.
4-I'm actually unsure on what to do with multiclassing right now. On one hand, I figure completely open multiclassing is fine, since STAB CITY is a very player empowering game, although I might through in a "dedication bonus" if you reach level 5 with a majority of Talents from your original class. On the other hand I really like the idea of character niche protection. Cobra Kai are really good at moving around, so does it detract from the Cobra Kai player when anyone can grab Talents from that class?
5-Absolutely! This document is just the rules for players, and even then, I left out explosives and vehicles and some other things I'm hoping to edit in later. For right now I just want to test out the core mechanics for the play test. Eventually there will be details on how to make balanced encounters, run groups of enemies as a single "horde" creature, setting info, ect.
Sweet.
DeleteI see what you mean about the niche protection. But remember that you can only ever get Talents from other classes, not their Inherent ability. So you can make your Monster more swole by taking a talent or two from Gorilla, but you can never gain the ability to mark enemies.
Also one more nitpick:
- Does 'Grow a Pair' require you to be in the same arena as the ally you're healing? The comment about "kick with your $1200 shoes" implies this, but that could just be flavouring. Better to be clear.
I'm planning on running some play tests with level five characters, and specifically asking the players to try and break the system with multiclass Talents. Theoretically it should work, but I just need to make sure I haven't overlooked some way to make a super unbalanced Assassin. Don't worry, I'm definitely planning on figuring out a balanced multiclass system before this thing is done.
DeleteGood catch on the Professional Talent - The kick is just for fluff, but I do need to add a notation that it only works on allies in the same Arena.
I've got play tests tonight and Sunday, so I'm hopefully going to have v2 of the rules out early next week, alongside play reports.
Another comment!
ReplyDeleteIt says you run out of ammo when you draw doubles of 'Spades or Clubs', but if I understand the mechanic correctly, shouldn't it be "draw doubles of Spades and Clubs", since drawing doubles of Spades alone would mean drawing two of the same card. Or is it supposed to be "any double containing Spades or Clubs", that is, any double that isn't Hearts and Diamonds?
The former interpretation seems like it would be very rare, the latter seems too common.
