Hell Babies

No one knows where they come from. The Sloads of Agartha claim they are gods cast down and shackled into mortal form. Sages in the sepulchral witchocracy of Cappadocia assert that they are the Nephalim, last and only angels that exist in the Bleaklands. Regardless of their origin, they are often used as boogeymen to frighten children, for the hell babies are terrible monsters.

A hell baby is something like a human new born, but titanic in proportion. They are no less than 20' tall, although they are incapable of standing at their full height and move by crawling. They travel through the tunnels and caves that make up the wilder parts of the Bleakland, cooing at strange creatures or building little piles of rocks. Travelers must be wary when travelling through their territory, for they are inherently hostile. These encounters are terrifying ordeals, because the hell babies are so massive they fill any passageway they climb through, and they eat anyone they can catch.

The hell babies never grow older or taller, and never once have they reacted to humans with anything but delighted giggling and immediate attempts to consume them. They seem incapable of communication, and while they show curiosity and interest in the world around them when alone, they immediately resort to violence when dealing with intelligent beings.

The babies have been rampaging through the tunnels of the Bleaklands for a hundred years. The nine hell babies crawled out from dark holes in the earth, and smashed four towns and dozens of isolated homesteads before the blue men of Stygia put them down and drove them back into the darkness. Of the nine hell babies of legend, only three remain, all of whom are male: Gog, Torog, and Borys.

Fire Breath: Hell babies can breath fire up to 24" away, inflicting 2-24 damage, half on a successful save against breath weapons.

Nigh Immortal: A hell baby reduced to zero hit points falls into a state of torpor and will awaken, fully healed, in 6 to 24 hours. The only way to prevent this is to cut open the back of the neck and remove a basketball sized gland shaped like a sleeping devil.

Swallow Whole: On a natural 19 or 20, the hell baby's melee attack instead deals no damage, but they baby snatches a target weighing less than 250 lbs and swallows it whole. The victim will be killed by stomach acid and heat in 3 roughs, and will be digested in 6 rounds, after which point the victim's body will reduced to cinders and raise dead will be impossible. The victim can continue to act within the stomach, including attacking. The stomach of a hell baby is AC 8.
